What is type 2 diabetes?
Diabetes experts discuss type 2 diabetes, a lifelong condition in which there is an elevated level of sugar (glucose) in the blood caused by resistance of the body’s tissues to the action of the hormone insulin. Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not make enough insulin, or the body becomes resistant to the insulin it makes and cannot use it the right way. As a result, sugar builds up in the blood instead of being used as fuel by the cells in our body.
