Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of patients and caregivers affected by type 2 diabetes.

Learning Objectives

  1. To enhance communications between type 2 diabetes patients and their physicians by increasing understanding of the complexities of their disease, its risks, symptoms, therapeutic options, management strategies, and outcomes.
  2. To explain and contrast the complex evidence-based data and scientific concepts of type 2 diabetes and provide understanding on the role of different therapeutic agents - their risks and benefits, their clinical utility in disease management, and treatment, as well as their safety, side-effects, and treatment in the spectrum of management options related to diabetes.
  3. To instruct patients on the needs for and risks of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD), and provide understanding of interventions and how this may benefit their outcomes, as well as what the potential outcomes may be, as part of enhancing patient informed consent and promoting dialogue between patients and physicians.
